Halloween will be bigger and better this year, growing in popularity and money spent. Adults will spend $1.2 billion on costumes for themselves (see list below). The average person -- that's you and me -- will spend $72.31 on costumes, candy and decorations, bringing the total spent for the holiday to $6.86 billion. Wow.
Two of my sisters-in-law and I snuck away to a small town north of Pittsburgh for an afternoon last week where several shops we visited were crammed full of Halloween goodies. Everything spooky was on sale from dishes to decorations to "grungy" style lights to food items to garden art to candles galore.
The stores were carrying a lot of inventory, and mostly, a lot of the same items, most of which were in a "primitive" country style.
