The Alamo

The Alamo, preserved in San Antonio, the Texas jewel of a city, surprises everyone who visits the historical site. Mention that you have been to the Alamo and people will say, “Didn’t you think it was small?” Guess all of our assumptions are based on old western movies. But like so many things in life, size often has very little to do with importance. In 1836 about 200 Texian and Tejano volunteers including the famous Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie gave their lives defending the old mission against the Mexican army, losing the scrimmage for the state they loved, but eventually not the war. As a lot of our historical sites are being infringed upon by progress, it’s good to see that enough people care about the history of this place to maintain it in the midst of a thriving city.
