The large amounts of snow and ice that have pelted most of the country present a multitude of problems, especially to those who deliver the U.S. Mail.

Even though ”rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night will stay these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds,” unsafe conditions such as unshoveled snow, icy sidewalks or even snow plowed against mailboxes can slow or delay delivery,” according to the USPS.

Homeowners are required to remove snow and ice near their mailboxes which might make it difficult for their mail to be delivered. For those who have curbside delivery, this includes snow that has been piled there by snow plows. For those who have door delivery, sidewalks and steps should be clear.

Postal carriers want to deliver your mail, but are instructed to refrain from delivering to locations they deem hazardous.
