Time to Hit the Road
Hit the road at our ages? That’s exactly what Phil and Carol White did. They decided to travel across the US for a year in a Class B camper van (see description below). Their trip consisted of more than 37,000 miles, visits to 48 states and a broken ankle for Carol. The positives outweighed the negatives for this adventurous couple who decided to self-publish the story of their trip to encourage others to embark on such a journey.
Their book entitled Live Your Road Trip Dream contains a sub-title that intrigues most who pick it up: “Travel for a year for the cost of staying home.” That attention-grabber is what has made their book such a success that they have recently released a new second edition. Phil and Carol offer advice on all aspects of leaving home for a year including how to tell your family that you are going!
How better to see America than being able to stop where you want, whenever you want, instead of having to settle to catch a glimpse of the vast beauty of the country from a cramped Airbus at 30,000 ft.?
Class B Camper Van
These units are an engineering marvel, according to one source. They have kitchens, washrooms with showers and sleep up to four people and all this is contained in a slightly stretched full-size van with the addition of a raised roof. Class Bs are easy to drive, fit in a normal parking space, are easy on fuel, and are often used as a second vehicle.
